The fund is provided by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and administered by Dounreay in association with the Dounreay Stakeholder Group.

Community organisations or charities that benefit people in Caithness and North Sutherland may be eligible for assistance from the Dounreay Communities Fund.

Read the following guidance notes. Once you have read through and decided that the Dounreay Communities Fund can assist your project/event, you need to apply by completing the application form and send to:

You can apply if you are a community based organisation and/or charity that benefits people in Caithness and North Sutherland.

The fund aims to assist charitable activities and local organisations that will improve the quality of life for people living in the Dounreay Travel to Work area (as far west to Tongue and as south to Helmsdale).

Youngsters under the age of 18 or in full time education who request assistance to represent their community at regional, national or international events may be eligible for assistance up to 50% of the cost.

The fund will assist local schools and parent councils for items which are wholly of benefit to the school children and out-with the school curriculum.

Applications intended to benefit people outwith Caithness and North Sutherland will not be considered.

Public establishments, ie hospitals, schools or parent councils where these items should be funded by the Highland Council or other government organisations.

The fund will not assist organisations or charities for ongoing running costs.

Donations will not be made to individuals unless they are under the age of 18.

National charities with no benefit to the local community.

Charities/organisations who have already received funding from Dounreay Communities Fund this financial year.


What will we fund?

Publicity
Dounreay Communities Fund will fund a wide range of projects and activities. Here are some of the projects the fund will support. If your event/project is not mentioned it does not mean we will not support.

Local sporting events - swimming, golf, badminton, squash, bowling, rugby and football events
Local charities - equipment, fund-raising events
Local events - Games, Mod, Massed Pipe Band, Local Galas
Local community groups - nursery and playgroups, children's football teams, dancing events, community council projects/events, musical events

Youngsters under 18 and in full time education representing their community at sporting, musical, art, etc
The fund is designed to accommodate small-scale community projects with a total cost of up to £5000.

Applications for below £1000: Assistance from the fund will normally be no more than 50%, but each request will be considered on its own merit. A receipt will be required for the agreed amount.
Application between £1001 - £5000: Assistance from the fund will normally be no more than 50%, but higher levels may be available in exceptional circumstances. A copy of audited accounts will be required. The donation will be paid on receipt of an invoice for the agreed amount.
Is the total project cost up to £5000?
Is the project within the Dounreay Travel to Work area?
Does the project improve quality of life?

For an individual request, will applicant be representing the community at regional, national or international events?
For public organisations (ie hospitals, school and/or parent councils) requests, does this benefit school children out-with the school curriculum?
Have you already received funding during this financial year?

Applications to the fund are reviewed on a quarterly basis:
