Councillors commitment to understand challenges in acute mental health services

22nd March 2018

Mental health was at the forefront of Highland Councillors' attention today (21 March 2018) as they participated in a seminar at Highland Council’s headquarters in Inverness.

The seminar was organised by the Council for Members and others, providing them an opportunity to hear about the different mental health services in place in Highland and the various challenges currently facing services and partners.

The seminar was organised following the unanimous agreement of a motion to The Highland Council’s meeting in 2017 to hold a meeting to discuss concerns regarding the future of acute mental health services in the Highlands.

Leader of The Highland Council Cllr Margaret Davidson said: "This excellent seminar was arranged today because Councillors acknowledged that the provision of adequate mental health services in the Highlands is of the utmost importance. Today was a great awareness raiser and we had outstanding presentations from NHS Mental Health Services, child and adult mental health and the Police.

“We will be following this up with a second event so that we get a clear understanding about how we can improve and plan services together with partner agencies and the voluntary sector."
