Caithness to the Cote DAzur - When the Monte Carlo Rally Started from John OGroats
29th August 2016
It is an often overlooked fact that the first British winner of the Monte in 1926 started from Caithness. During the next 13 years, over 200 men and women took on the challenge of the non-stop journey from Scotland to Monte Carlo in the middle of winter.
The cars in which they competed were virtually standard models and included a wide range of makes from MG and Riley to Rolls Royce and Mercedes-Benz. Caithness to the Cote D'Azur is a tribute to the skill and determination of the drivers, bringing the story up to date with the return of the Monte Carlo Classique event to John O'Groats in 2016.
