Wick High School pupils get planting

Pupils from Wick High School have been undertaking a range of maintenance and environmental project work at Newtonhill Croft Woodland.

The youngsters meet two to three times a month and have undertaken path improvement works, bird box builds, wild flower meadow maintenance and much more. As the season for tree planting is upon us the pupils have been planting a range of broad-leaf trees gifted by the Woodland Trust.

Ranger Marina Swanson said: The Wick High school pupils are very enthusiastic about work projects on site. They have undertaken a great deal of work and are helping to get our woodland site established. In the last two sessions, the pupils have planted over 100 trees and should be very proud of the efforts.

Newtonhill Croft Woodland is owned by Forestry Commission for Scotland and together with the Friends of Newtonhill community group and Highland Council countryside rangers, are enhancing the woodland site for the enjoyment of the local community.
