Dounreay staff support cancer relay event

15th August 2015

The third Caithness Relay for Life fundraising event for Cancer Research UK takes place at the Thurso County Showground on Saturday August 29, and Dounreay folk have been working hard to help with the organisation.

Starting at 3pm with a children's relay, the event will last until 6am on Sunday. It will have a festival flavour, with live music until 11pm.

Teams will take part in a 12-hour relay to raise money for Cancer Research UK. If you would like to enter a team, you can do it online at: http://relay.cancerresearchuk.org

The children's relay will have a fairy tale and superheroes theme, and children can dress as their favourite characters. There is no entrance fee for children and they will all receive a small token for taking part.

The main relay will begin at 6pm with the survivors walking the first lap.

The Candle of Hope ceremony will take place at 9pm. Candle bags will be lit around the track and dedications will be projected onto the stage, to remember those who have fought, are fighting or lost their battle with cancer. A lone piper will play to end the ceremony.
