HomeStart Caithness held what is now an annual awards night and a chance for volunteers scattered across the county to meet with each other and the small staff team based in Wick. The venue for the evening was the Castletown Heritage Centre at Castlehill.

The chairman Victoria Denley Spencer outlined the work of the past year highlighting the huge contribution to local families by the volunteers. Victoria thanked the volunteers, the small staff team and her board of directors for their dedication and work.

The group also heard from Rosemary Smith who became the group's co-ordinator in October 2014 after being the chairman and volunteers for some time before that. Then it was the turn of Rachel Jolly the other co-ordinator to outline some of the work undertaken over the year.

Certificates for service were presented by the group's patron Wick councillor Gail Ross to the volunteers and then the night continued with a buffet meal.

HomeStart Caithness gets some funding from Highland Council and NHS Highland but also relies on its own fund-raising efforts.

Volunteers are always need and training is given. Anyone who is interested should contact the HomeStart Caithness office.
