The Tannach and District Community Fund is making a lasting impact in the area it serves. In its first year of operation the fund awarded over £25K to eight local projects.

Thrumster Primary School Parent Council was one of the beneficiaries which received funding to purchase equipment to enhance the outdoor play area, including seating, play bins, outdoor chalkboards and decorative items.

Yarrows Heritage Trust received £4,988 to contribute to the costs of carrying out an archaeological investigation around the Swartigill Burn

Members of the Stirkoke Rifle Club will be feeling the warmth thanks to awards totalling £12,400 to insulation the clubhouse and purchase a new stove to help heat the club room.

Carol Elliot, Foundation Scotland, local representative said "In the first year of operation this Fund has already made a significant impact to the local community, preserving its heritage, encouraging more sustainable energy use and making it a vibrant place to live. We want to ensure the continued success of the Fund and would encourage other groups to apply before the next deadline of the 18th March."

This Fund is provided by Wathegar Wind Farm LLP which is owned by Whirlwind Renewables and FIM Windfarms 2 LP (a partnership managed by FIM Services Ltd), who together built Wathegar Wind Farm.

Foundation Scotland has been appointed by the wind farm operator and the community to administer the Community Fund which launched just under a year ago. The Fund is expected to distribute around £30,000 each year for the operational lifetime of the wind farm, which is expected to be around 25 years.

The Fund supports community groups and charities working in the Tannach and District Community Council area that provide activities which promote community spirit and bring people together, enhance quality of life and promote people's wellbeing and foster a vibrant, sustainable community.

In the coming round there is a small pot of £1500 available for groups from the wider Caithness area and groups are encouraged to apply prior to the deadline of the 18th March.
