At about 22:20 hours on Friday 05 September 2014, Police Scotland received a report of an assault on a woman having taken place within the lane leading to Kirk Lane car park in Wick town centre.

As part of ongoing enquiries into the assault, police are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have been in the vicinity of Anderson Lane, Kirk Lane, Bridge Street and Harper's Bar, Back Bridge Street, between 21:45 hours and 22:15 hours on Friday 05 September.

Local Area Inspector Nick Clasper said: "I would like to reassure the community that enquiries are ongoing into this matter and Police Scotland remains committed to resolving this reported incident. A high visibility police presence will be in the area speaking to members of the public.

"The area where the incident happened on Friday night was busy so I would encourage anyone who was in the vicinity around that time to come forward, even if they don't think they have seen the assailant or the incident itself.

"Enquiries are at an early stage and no further information is available at this time."

Anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual are encouraged to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/
