Police are investigating a mystery incident off Wick town centre..

A tent was erected at the foot of steps leading from Bridge Street to Kirk Lane, early today and crime scene tapes installed.

A Police Scotland photographer was observed taking photos later in the day.

The local branch of the Clydesdale Bank is situated on one side of the steps and a branch of the charity Blythswood Care, on the other side.

Police later stated that the investigation follows a report of a woman having been assaulted.

They have appealed for anyone who might have seen anything suspicious to get in touch with them.

Police Statement
At about 22:20 hours on Friday 05 September 2014, Police Scotland received a report of an assault on a woman having taken place within the lane leading to Kirk Lane car park in Wick town centre.

Anyone who was in the vicinity at that time and may have witnessed anything unusual are asked to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
