Pulteneytown People's Project - Funded Opportunities for SVQ Qualifications and Modern Apprentice

PPP are offering a unique opportunity for people who would like to train to work in the following fields;
Social Services and Healthcare (Adults)
Social Services and Healthcare (Children and Young People)
Playwork (playgroups, nurseries, out of school care or play-schemes)

PPP have secured funding from the Highland Councils Deprived Area Fund to deliver Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ’s). These opportunities are open to anyone over the age of 16 whether they are employed or unemployed. PPP are able to work around people who have part time jobs by fitting work placements around their days off. Successful applicants will have to commit to study in their own time and one or two days a week work placement which will last for one year.

All SVQ’s are suitable for people wishing to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

There is also one Modern Apprenticeship available in Active Leisure, Learning and Wellbeing. This is made up of SVQ Playwork level 3, the SQA unit; Process of Play, Food Hygiene level 2 and Core Skills at SCQF level 4/5. Applicants for the apprenticeship opportunity only must be in the age bracket 16-19. The successful applicant will be paid £3.00 per hour and work 36 hours each week. Applicants for this must have a good general level of education and be interested in a career in childcare.

The following SVQ’s will be delivered;

SVQ Social Services and Healthcare (Children and Young People) Level 3 or 2

This qualification takes over from the old Children’s Care, Learning and Development SVQ and is a nationally recognised award accredited by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA). It is suitable for those wishing to work as practitioners or support workers in early education and childcare.

By undertaking this SVQ, candidates are expected to be involved in meeting the care, support and learning needs of children and set up informal learning activities at level 3 or to be involved in practical hands on activities with children at level 2.

To achieve level 3, SVQ candidates must achieve 8 units in total – 4 Mandatory and 4 Optional Units.
To achieve level 2, SVQ candidates must achieve 6 units in total – 4 Mandatory and 2 Optional Units.

SVQ Social Services and Healthcare (Adults) Level 3 or 2
This qualification takes over from the old Health and Social Care SVQ and is a nationally recognised award accredited by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) and is suitable for those wishing to work as practitioners in Care Homes or Support Work at support worker / assistant level.

Candidates must be willing to commit to a work placement within PPP or a designated care provider and be willing to study in their own time.
