Easter holiday fun with the Caithness Rangers

3rd April 2014

The Highland Council Countryside Rangers in Caithness will be running three events over the Easter holidays for local families and visitors to enjoy.

On Saturday 12 April the Rangers are looking for volunteers to come and join them spring clean Dunnet Beach. If you enjoy using this great beach why not come and help to give it a good clean for the coming season? Gloves and bags will be provided with a free hot at the Seadrift Centre to help keep volunteers warm. The spruce up session will start at 10am and run until 2pm so anyone is welcome to come along and stay as long as they can.

An alternative Easter egg-case hunt takes place at Sandside Bay in Reay on Friday 18 April. The Bay is one of the best places along the North coast to find “mermaid purses” especially common skate egg-cases.

North Sutherland and North Caithness ranger Paul Castle said: “Skate and ray egg cases can be found all along the Caithness coast but can be difficult to spot and identify. This is a great chance to come along and find out how many different egg-cases we can identify and our results will help in the conservation effort for these endangered species.”

The event runs from 2pm-4pm so anyone coming along should meet up with Paul at Sandside Harbour Car Park at 2pm. The cost is £3 for Adults, £2 concessions and £8 for families.

The third Easter holiday event will be a family treasure hunt in Geise woodlands near Glengolly on Sunday 20 April from 2pm-3pm. Why not bring the family along to search for clues and eggs of all descriptions? Booking is essential so anyone wanting to take part should contact Ranger Marina Swanson on 07818588256 or e-mail marina.swanson[AT]highland.gov.uk

These Easter holiday events are part of the Caithness Rangers activities for 2014 which can all be found in the Ranger event booklet available now from your local Ranger. Event details can also be found by visiting www.outdoorhighlands.co.uk .
