Public Thanked as 150 Reported With Drugs Supply Offences In Highland

Police highlight successful local operation to stem supply of controlled drugs across the Highlands and Islands.

2013 saw a successful local intelligence led operation targeting drug dealers operating in local communities, known as Operation Ram, resulting in the execution of 153 drugs warrants and the seizure of an assortment of Class A, B and C drugs along with cash and other items.

The approximate total for the amount of drugs seized during last year's operation is estimated at £279,461 and cash in excess of £27,000 across the Highland and Islands Division.

Over 150 people were reported for being involved in the supply of these controlled drugs.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Mackay said: "2013 has been a successful year for Police Scotland Highland and Islands Division and we look to continue this level of achievement for 2014. We would like to thank the public for their continued support in targeting those involved in drugs within their communities.

"Throughout last year as part of Operation Ram, the Highland and Islands Division assessed individuals and groups who cause the most harm to our communities and through a proactive approach in targeting these criminals and their activities, we have successfully taken over £200,000 worth of drugs off our streets, reporting those involved, ensuring that the Highlands and Islands remain one of the safest places to live in the UK.

He added a warning to drug dealers: "The message is quite clear, Operation Ram continues into 2014 and to those involved in criminal activity, if you get involved in drug dealing and serious criminality in this Divisional area, we will come after you."
