The Seann Truibhas - Highland Dance at Mey Highland Games 2013

3rd August 2013

Photo Gallery

Highland Dancing is one of the main attractions at the Mey Highland Games held annually in Caithness.

The dance here on Saturday 3rd August 2013 was one of several. The Seann Truibhas is a beautiful dance and the history of Scotland is woven into the steps. Highland and other forms of dancing are very popular with girls in Caithness and they enter many competitions througout the year. There are several dance class groups in the county.

The Seann Truibhas is the classic and surely the most beautiful of all our Highland Dances. It is most difficult to perform it as it should be danced, and takes years of practice.

The words used to describe the opening and subsequent steps are SLOW, LILTING and SUSTAINED, and for the closing quick steps the contrast of BUOYANT and LIVELY. Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay attends each year following a tradition set by his grandmother.

The link to the photo gallery above has many photos from the day including Prince Charles, duke of Rothesay and chieftan of the games officiating at the tug-o-war between teams made up on the day from visitors and locals. This small annual gathering is avery friendly affair.
