The ‘People, Not Profit' credit unions campaign has been launched by Aileen Campbell, Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Local Government today (Wednesday 14 November 2018), as results of a new survey reveal that one in five (20%) people in Scotland have not heard of a credit union.   The launch was held at the Capital credit union in Edinburgh during Talk Money Scotland Week (12-18 November 2018).

Armistice 100 - St John's Wick
On 11 November 2018, 100 years since Armistice, bells will ring out in unison from churches and cathedrals in villages, towns and cities across the country.   As part of "Her Majesty's Government" ambition for Bells to ring out at 12.30pm on the 11th of November, to commemorate the centenary of the Armistice, which signalled the end of the First World War, a team of some of the Poltney Bell Ringers will join the congregation of St John's Scottish Episcopal Church, Moray Street, Wick on Sunday 11th November 2018.

Sleep Scotland Encourages Exhausted Families in the Highlands and Islands to call their Free Sleep Support Phone Line
Sleep Scotland has recently rolled out a free telephone Support Line across Scotland to provide immediate help to parents and carers struggling with their children's and teenagers' sleep problems.   Now, with funding from the Big Lottery and Scottish Government, the charity is encouraging families in the Highlands, Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland to access telephone support from their experienced sleep advisors.

Memorial Restoration Works Highlighted in lead up to Armistice Day
The Leader of The Highland Council has highlighted the excellent restoration work being done on war memorials across the Highlands using funding from the Council and the Scottish Governments Centenary War Memorial Restoration Fund which is administered by the Council.   Recently a rededication service was held in Dores following an ambitious project lead by the local community with support by the Council to restore their distinctive war memorial.

A much loved local attraction celebrated its 25th Anniversary last night when members of the team that shaped the development of High Life Highland's Inverness Botanic Gardens and Nursery joined guests to mark the 25th anniversary of the gardens.   Mike Hann, the original creator of the gardens gave a talk outlining the development of the garden and how his plans have taken shape in the 25 years since the inception of the site accompanied by a series of illuminating historic pictures highlighting the journey.

A big increase in young people being referred to mental health services and longer waiting times are signs of a system under significant pressure, says a new report.   The Auditor General and the Accounts Commission have called for a step change in the way the public sector responds to the mental health needs of children and young people.

Archaeology Festival to showcase Highland's historic past
The high point of the year for celebrating the local heritage of the Highlands starts on Friday 28th September 2018.  For three weeks, the Highland Archaeology Festival will offer throughout the Highlands a range of walks, talks, workshops, exhibitions, the annual conference, special children's activities and other events for all ages.

Recognising the value of young carers
oung people are being asked for their views on plans to deliver a new grant worth £300 a year to young carers.   The Young Carer Grant will be available to carers aged 16-17, not in receipt of Carers Allowance, who spend 16 hours or more a week caring for people entitled to qualifying disability benefits.
