The Highland Council will fly the Rainbow Flag, the symbol of the LBGT+ rights movement, in Inverness during the weekend of 20 and 21 July to show support for Proud Ness 2019.   Convenor of the Highland Council, Cllr Bill Lobban said:"Last October, thousands of people from the LGBT+ community, their family and friends and members of the wider community, turned up to march through Inverness with a clear message that the Highlands is an inclusive place where we promote fairness and welcome diversity.

Mikie Aitken , Quality Control Inspector for Subsea7 Wester Site ,recently won a thousand pounds for a safety award while working on the Equinor Snorre project to be given to a charity of his choice.   He chose to donate to Caithness Health Action Team 100mile helper kits which are given to Caithness General Hospital , Community Maternity Unit who give the kits to local women that have to be quickly transferred to Raigmore maternity hospital in an emergency situation.

New national public health body 'Public Health Scotland': consultation - Let's Get Some Caithness Views into this
This consultation document invites views on the proposals for a new national public health body in Scotland, to be known as ‘Public Health Scotland'.   In June 2018, this Government and COSLA set out Scotland's public health priorities which represented agreement between the Scottish Government and Local Government about the importance of focusing our efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of the population.

Measles Cases Rising
Over 100 000 people sick with measles in 14 months: with measles cases at an alarming level in the European Region, WHO scales up response.   WHO is scaling up its response to the ongoing measles outbreaks in the European Region, including by creating an operational platform to accelerate its support to affected countries.

Events set out reasons to support UNESCO World Heritage Site Status for The Flow Country.   TV historian and archaeologist Neil Oliver and geology's ‘rock star' Professor Iain Stewart will be joined by UNESCO expert Professor Barry Gilbertson in a series of talks in the Highlands this summer that answer the question Why make The Flow Country a World Heritage Site? The ‘Full Flow' events, which will take place in Lairg, Thurso and Inverness on 5, 6, and 7 July respectively, invite audiences to hear about the environmental and cultural importance of The Flow Country in Sutherland and Caithness, addressing Scotland's climate emergency, the need to protect the spectacular beauty and wildlife of the area’s unique habitat and the part it plays in the lives of people who live here.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon visited V&A Dundee this week to celebrate over 10,000 people taking part in free family workshops since the museum opened.   The First Minister also met with Home-Start Dundee, a local charity which supports families with young children through a range of issues including post-natal depression, isolation, physical health problems and bereavement.

James Mowat Simpson, born isle of Stroma 05.04.1928: died 02.06.2019 in Wick, Caithness.   Jimmy Simpson, the Laird of Stroma, died at the age of 91 on June 2nd, 2019 at the Town & County Hospital, in Wick, Caithness, after a lengthy illness.

More than 14,000 applications for Best Start Grant have been received in a week, following the launch of the new School Age Payment.   Social Security Scotland uses a single application process for these payments so families can apply for a number of Best Start Grant Payments in one form.

Still questions to answer on transport of pregnant women from Caithness
Labour MSP Rhoda Grant is still pushing for more to be done for pregnant women in Caithness.   An MSP is renewing her call for a full risk assessment to be carried out on the methods of transporting pregnant women to hospital from Caithness to Inverness after receiving an edited version of an investigation into the birth of twin babies, born 50 miles apart.

Call for Parental Involvement and Engagement (PIE) in Census
Parents and carers with children attending a Highland school are being asked to participate in a Parental Involvement and Engagement (PIE) Census.   Through the census the Scottish Government is seeking to collate comparable data nationally based on a set of questions that all local authorities have been asked to share with families.

We are currently in the process of trying to raise enough money through crowdfunding for a 3D Community printer here in Caithness.  In addition we are also looking to purchase several Architectural Modelling Kits to introduce into Primary Education, some of these are available for children as young as 4 years.
