Pulteney House, Wick, a care home for 18 older people, was officially reopened today (Friday 1st February) following a £431,000 refurbishment.  This is the sixth Highland run care home to be refurbished under the Council’s programme of improvements at a total cost so far of £2.3 million.

The overall winner and best in show was a "Continental Giant" an impressively huge rabbit looking in tip top conditions.   A big softy this rabbit allowed all of the children and adults to stroke his fur.

Pulteneytown People’s Project have a busy few months ahead of us, with the opening of Wick Training Centre.  We have a newly appointed Learning Co-ordinator, Donnie Sinclair, who will be responsible for the setting up of the centre and delivery of training courses.

The new Scallywags Nursery at Crossroads school, Dunnet has capacity for 15 children and currently has 10.   Despite the past couple of years of uncertainty regarding the sustainability of some rural nurseries the committee of Scallywags has shown that it is viable and that there are sufficient children in the area to make use of the facility.

Halkirk Army Cadets Gets New Lease Of Life
Halkirk Detachment of the Army Cadet force re-opens its doors at 7 PM on Wednesday 29th November, and for Wednesday evenings after that, bar the Christmas holidays.  Boys and girls of 12 to 18 are invited to come along and see what it is all about.

Mey hall committee held a sponsored cycle on Sunday when twenty four cyclists took part and raised around £1,700.   The sponsored cycle is one of many fund raising events the hall committee are running in their bid to get enough for new hall.  
Pulteneytown People’s Project Summer School
Pulteneytown People’s Project Summer School will be running for three weeks from the 3rd – 21st of July at Wick High School from 9.00am – 5.00pm .  The Summer School is open to children aged 5 – 14 years and offers affordable child care for working parents as well as fun filled days for any children who are looking for activities during the summer holidays.  
Community Centre At Pulteneytown Gets Go Ahead From Caithness Planning Committee
The Community centre which was described as partly a regeneration centre was given the go ahead after site inspection today in Wick.   8 councillors attended and there were no dissenting voices.

Caithness Army Cadet Force held a fieldcraft exercise weekend at Broubster Forest near Reay as the culmination of the Company's training before annual camp.  Activities included living in the field, camouflage, observation, tactical movement and patrolling.

On 13th May members of 1285 (Caithness) Squadron travelled from Wick to RAF Kinloss to participate in the Highland Wing Drill, Aircraft Recognition and modelling competitions.  High School exams limited the numbers of cadets who were able to travel, but attending the events were James Bamfield, Christopher Bremner, Yeager Coghill, Kerry Wilson, Kerry Smith, Diane Banks and Steffi Niwa.

Miss Anne Dunnett, Lord Lieutenant of Caithness, was inspecting officer at the Thurso Air Cadet’s Annual Parent’s Night and Presentation of Awards in the Royal British Legion Thurso at the end of April.  In addressing the cadets, Miss Dunnett highlighted their high standard of turnout and emphasised that, by being part of an organisation such as the Air Cadets, they were all youngsters who were doing something to make a difference in their lives.
