Around 40% of charities have a 31 March financial year end, meaning that the deadline for filing their accounts is 31 December.  This means that December is often a very busy time for us responding to queries from charities that need a little assistance and receiving submissions.

This year is our 25th toy appeal and we would really like it to be the best yet! We gave been totally taken aback by the generosity of the Caithness people over the years, the help we have received has been totally amazing and we really do appreciate it.   Everything we collect is delivered to the local social work department who consult with other organisations to ensure that the gifts go to those most in need.

When Bruce de Wert of Georgesons Solicitors heard of the distress of new Mums having to drive back from Inverness with their newborn in danger, he knew he had to do something.   The problem is that newborns cannot sit in car seats without compressing their lungs and it is a long way from Inverness to Caithness! And, so, he announced that this year the charity for Wills Week would be CHAT who provide lie flat car seats for for newborn babies.

Game on! Competition for pupils across Northern Alliance launches
We're pleased to announce the launch of a Northern Alliance-wide GamesCon event.   Primary school pupils from across the Northern Alliance - from Shetland to Aberdeen and right across to Argyll and Bute - are to benefit from the opportunity to take part in a competition to create a game using coding software, SCRATCH.

New £11.5 million fund to tackle poverty and inequality
People in disadvantaged communities are set to benefit from a range of projects to tackle poverty, inequality and rural disadvantage.   Around 250 community groups, social enterprises and charities across the country will receive a share of £11.5 million in 2019-20 through the new Scottish Government Investing in Communities Fund.

A specialist event for people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes to get expert advice and information about living with the condition comes to Caithness next week - and it's your final chance to sign up! The Caithness Diabetes group, supported by Diabetes Scotland, is hosting the free event next Wednesday - and are urging those living with the condition, their family members and carers to come along.   Being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes can feel daunting as it is a complex and serious health condition.

More than 80 Wickers gave up their time last Thursday to suggest improvements to High Street and Bridge Street.   The feedback formed part of The Wick Street Design project which is being delivered by Sustrans Scotland and funded by Transport Scotland in partnership with The Highland Council, Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council and Local Councillors.
