On 19th and 20th January Caithness Horizons will be launching a new initiative called "Peter's Pals" a Young Curators Club for children aged between 8 and 12 years old.   Led by “Peter” the Museum’s mascot who is a Little Penguin (scientific name: Eudyptula minor) and the Museum Curator “Peter’s Pal’s” will meet regularly (once a month apart from at Christmas and during the summer holidays) to investigate the Museum Collection; participate in workshops to learn new skills relating to the Museum’s Collection.

Public and Schools Solar Observing Activities 2012 During the International Year of Astronomy, Caithness Astronomy Group held numerous public and school events, engaging the local population with the varied science and technology associated with Space and Astronomy.   Thanks to funding from the IoP in Scotland and the Dounreay Communities Fund in 2010, Caithness Astronomy Group (CAG) were able to purchase solar observing equipment that provided a new avenue for engaging with the local population that would complement our night time observing events.

A local organisation supporting children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse has received a funding boost thanks to players of a charity lottery.   Caithness & Sutherland Women’s Aid – Children & Young People’s Service was awarded £1,545,00 by People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.  
PPP Offer Five Places To Gain SVQ In Playwork - Is This Opportunity For You?
Pulteneytown People's Project have secured funding through the Highland Council to provide a unique opportunity to put five people through their SVQ level 2 or 3 in Playwork.  The full cost of the year long course will be covered and childcare will be provided in the PPP creche/after school club, free of charge, if required.

AUCKENGILL hall committee’s Guy Fawkes party went with a bang...and a whiz and plenty of sparkle, at the weekend.   The ancient fire festival was well “remembered” by members and friends, young and old, who retired to the hall after giving the guys, put together by local youngsters, a hot send-off.
