INDEPENDENCE OF BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE MUST BE MAINTAINED
Scottish Labour's Candidate in the Far North, John Erskine, has slammed SNP plans from Michael Matheson, the SNP Government's Cabinet Secretary for Justice to wind up the British Transport Police.   The Minister announced today last week that Police Scotland will take over railway policing when the function is devolved.

A study of gannets off the northwest coast of Scotland has found the birds' numbers have increased rapidly over the last decade.   This news comes hot on the heels of news in February announcing that the Bass Rock in East Lothian took over from St Kilda as the world's largest gannet colony.

8 Out of 10 Parents Want to Work Less and Childcare More
even out of ten (70%) people in the UK say couples should split childcare and parenting duties equally, according to new polling conducted by Opinium and published by the think tank Institute For Public Policy Research (IPPR) ahead of Valentine's Day.   Eight out of ten (80%) working couples with children under 18 say that, if money was no object, they would like to, or would like their partner to, reduce their working hours to look after their children.

The next Caithness District Partnership meeting is due to take place in Wick on Friday 27 March.  Included on the agenda will be an update on the Caithness Redesign Reference Group work and Bob Silverwood, the Area Community Care Manager, will be present to talk about local NHS staffing.
