Equality Budget announced for 2015-16
£20.3 million to tackle inequality and discrimination across Scotland.   Scottish projects to address inequality, tackle discrimination and progress equality across Scotland will benefit from Scottish Government funding of £20.3 million this year.

Rural Scotland rated very good place to live
Scotland's Chief Statistician today published the Rural Scotland Key Facts 2015.  The publication brings together previously published statistics on a range of key policy areas, providing comparisons between remote rural areas, accessible rural areas and the rest of Scotland.

Teachers who bring their pupils into the outdoors find it makes their learning more enjoyable, challenging, active and collaborative according to a report published today by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH).   The study shows that outdoor learning in school and pre-schools has increased since Curriculum for Excellence was introduced but that further increases could be made.

Rhoda Grant MSP Supports Down's Syndrome Awareness Week
Down's Syndrome Scotland, which supports people with Down's syndrome, their families and professionals, organised an exhibition for MSPs at the Scottish Parliament to highlight Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week (16th-22nd March 2015) and the United Nations World Down’s Syndrome Day (Saturday 21st March 2015).   Rhoda Grant MSP welcomed the opportunity to learn a little more about Down’s syndrome to better represent and help constituents.

The next Caithness District Partnership meeting is due to take place in Wick on Friday 27 March.  Included on the agenda will be an update on the Caithness Redesign Reference Group work and Bob Silverwood, the Area Community Care Manager, will be present to talk about local NHS staffing.

INDEPENDENCE OF BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE MUST BE MAINTAINED
Scottish Labour's Candidate in the Far North, John Erskine, has slammed SNP plans from Michael Matheson, the SNP Government's Cabinet Secretary for Justice to wind up the British Transport Police.   The Minister announced today last week that Police Scotland will take over railway policing when the function is devolved.

A study of gannets off the northwest coast of Scotland has found the birds' numbers have increased rapidly over the last decade.   This news comes hot on the heels of news in February announcing that the Bass Rock in East Lothian took over from St Kilda as the world's largest gannet colony.

8 Out of 10 Parents Want to Work Less and Childcare More
even out of ten (70%) people in the UK say couples should split childcare and parenting duties equally, according to new polling conducted by Opinium and published by the think tank Institute For Public Policy Research (IPPR) ahead of Valentine's Day.   Eight out of ten (80%) working couples with children under 18 say that, if money was no object, they would like to, or would like their partner to, reduce their working hours to look after their children.
