Tempest Community Club
A group of like-minded people have got together for the social interaction of the community.  The voluntary non-profit club will be primarily based at Cafe Tempest, Thurso Harbour where most of its events will be held.

Thrumster primary opened its doors at 10am on Monday the 30th of March 2015 to allow parents, friends and family to attend a coffee morning to raise funds for a school trip to Orkney.  Whilst the adults enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee and purchased from the many stalls set up, the children of all ages took part in an Easter egg hunt.

CAITHNESS Heart Support Group is hosting a major awareness event aimed at helping people to maintain and improve their health.   Arranged on a drop-in basis, at the Pentland Hotel, Thurso, it will feature six organisations, the Caithness Diabetes Group, Wick Wheezers, the community stroke services of Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, North Highland Cancer Support, Befriending Caithness, and Caithness Deaf Centre.

Highland Council to consult on Self-Directed Support
Families and carers of children and young people who are eligible for Self-Directed Support are to be consulted on the continuing use of direct payments for services in the Highlands.   Self-Directed Support is available for children and young people who have been assessed as requiring care or support.

Easter with the Highland Countryside Rangers
The Highland Council's Countryside Rangers have organised a number of fun events for all ages to enjoy over the Easter holidays from hunting for dinosaur footprints, taking part in a reptile survey, guided clifftop walks and the chance to explore some wild west scenery to egg hunts and craft sessions.   In Caithness on Easter Sunday there will be a family treasure hunt near Glengolly followed by an Easter egg-case hunt at Sandside on Monday 6 April.

Operation Monarda update - campaign against bogus callers and associated doorstep crime
As part of Operation Monarda, Police Scotland's campaign against Bogus Callers and associated Doorstep Crime, officers from Police Scotland, VOSA, SEPA and Highland Council Trading Standards, carried out a high visibility operations in both Inverness and Brora last week.   Operation Monarda aims to raise awareness of bogus callers, rogue traders and associated doorstep crime by providing advice and information on how householders can protect themselves from such crimes.

Meningitis B vaccine to be introduced in Scotland

Support for victims of violence
£20m additional funding to tackle abuse against women and girls.   An additional £20 million will be invested in a range of measures to tackle all forms of violence against women and girls in Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

Garden waste monitoring raises the standard
With the re-starting of The Highland Council garden waste collections at the beginning of March, tighter contamination monitoring has seen a substantial improvement in the quality of the collected material compared to last year.   Councillor Graham MacKenzie, Chair of the Community Services Committee praised residents for the overall quality of material presented.
