Primary school pupils gear up to become "Safe Young Highlanders"
Hundreds of local primary seven pupils will be looking forward to taking part in the forthcoming ‘Safe Young Highlander' event which is being coordinated by the charity High Life Highland on behalf of The Highland Council, Community Planning Partners and the many other organisations involved.   The popular annual event is designed to give the pupils a positive, interactive experience increasing their knowledge in community safety, health and crime prevention.

TESCO are inviting local community groups and good causes to apply for their share of a £12MILLION carrier bag charge fund.   The supermarket teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative, which sees grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 - all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to environmental and greenspace projects.

More than half of Scottish parents see a noticeable improvement in their children's happiness after they walk to school, new research has found.   National charity Living Streets conducted research with parents of primary school children in Scotland and found that half see an improvement in their child's mood (52%) and behaviour (49%) after they've done physical activity.

Just less than a week separated Halkirk and Melvich Primary School's village litter picks but the weather couldn’t have been more different.  Both village litter picks were undertaken as part of the schools Eco-studies programme and registered with the Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign and each event received assistance from The Highland Council’s local Countryside Ranger Paul Castle.

Final call for Your Cash Your Caithness applications
Local groups in Caithness are reminded that the closing date for Your Cash Your Caithness applications is drawing near and to be in with a chance of receiving a share of £30,000 forms need to be submitted by 5pm on Friday 6 May.   Caithness Members of The Highland Council have set aside £30k from their Ward Discretionary Budget to let the local community decide for themselves which projects are needed in their area.

Records were broken for the numbers of models on show and for the numbers of people coming along to view the amazing collections that had come from both Caithness and many other parts of the country.  The Model Show has now purchased its own tables so no longer needs to make a round trip to Dornoch to borrow them.

Discrete HIV Testing In Caithness
Waverley Care are running a Rapid Testing clinic in Wick on 3rd May 2016 in the evening.   They are the only organisation funded to provide this service in the Highlands.
