The weather was not good with torrential rain for the 60th Lybster Gala night.   Everything moved into the hall but once crowing of the queen was over the sun came out and it was outside for pipe band and procession..

Highland Young Philanthropists Secure £72,000 in Funding for Local Charities
Winning secondary school teams from across Scotland recently attended the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) Scotland's "Festival of Philanthropy" at Perth Concert Hall (on 21 June).   This year 24 of the 27 Highland based schools took part in the YPI programme and their winning teams were at the national event to celebrate their success and the inspirational way they have become involved in prominent social issues within their local area.

Pulteneytown Academy will soon be no more when it joins with South School under its new name of Newton Park and moves to a brand new school.   An open day was held to allow anyone including former pupils to have final look around the old school before it gets demolished later this year to make way for a new playing field for the new school.

Additional Support Needs Funding Levels To Be Sustained
The Highland Council has confirmed that it will sustain the current funding for Additional Support Needs in Primary and Secondary Schools for the new school year - 2016/17.   While the Council has taken measures to address a £40m budget gap, it will not require to reduce the funding to schools for children with additional needs.

£20.3 million to tackle discrimination across Scotland.   224 projects will benefit from more than £20 million in funding to drive forward Scotland's equality agenda in 2016-17.

Wick to host Caithness District Partnership - Friday, 24th June
On Friday, 24th June the Caithness District Partnership will meet in Wick and issues to be discussed will include updates on Child Care Mapping by the Children's Services Manager and on the Self-Managed Development Fund approvals.  A presentation will be made by Poppy Scotland on their Welfare Services and there will be an opportunity to hear from Michelle Johnstone the recently appointed NHS Highland Area Manager for Caithness and Sutherland.

Lifeboat Day at Wick Harbour saw the usual big crowds to hear the pipe band, watch the dancing and buy from the many stalls.   This was the last lifeboat day before many changes happen around the harbour including the demolition of the fish market and removal of the lifeboat offices as new work to build new offices begin around August..
