Contents of Scotland's Baby Box confirmed as registration begins
The list of contents for Scotland's Baby Box is now available online as registration for the nationwide roll out begins. All babies due on or after 15 August 2017 will receive a box of essential items to support parents and promote a fair and equal start for all children in Scotland.

Wick Voices Tell Their Stories On Aspects Of Life Gone By
The Wick Society's oral history section, Wick Voices, is generating a lot of interest in the community. The project was launched in 2016 with the aim of preserving local voices for posterity.

Caithness Heart Support Group - AGM And Tributes
IN her valedictory address as Caithness Heart Support Group's patron, Anne Dunnett, paid tribute to the organisation's commitment, at their AGM, recently. The Lord Lieutenant, retiring from public life, later this month, said she had "never seen such a dedicated bunch of fundraisers who care so much for people that need help" and added: "It is a great team they have here, and I have been honoured to have been a small part of it." Miss Dunnett told an 'encouraging' turnout at the St Fergus Church Hall, that, thanks to advances in technology and good doctors and nurses, the chances of survival from heart attacks, had improved.

First Beatrice Partnership Fund awards totalling £378,000 announced
We are making our first round of awards to support transformational projects in Caithness, Sutherland and Moray from the £6m Beatrice Community Fund. The first round has seen an initial sum of £378,000 donated to 14 different projects across the north of Scotland.6/6/2017
Volunteer Mentors Sought by Action for Children in Highlands
A leading children's charity are seeking volunteer mentors across the Highlands to work with young people. The volunteers will be supported by a project Action for Children have just launched in Inverness and Ross shire - Caithness and Sutherland are next! Action for Children in the Highlands have begun delivering ‘Intandem', a needs led volunteer mentoring service funded by Inspiring Scotland, for young people aged 8-14 who face complicated and challenging situations. Intandem has been set up to support young people coming into, or leaving the care system, and provide a positive adult role model.

The Highland Council is urging all organisers of community fireworks events that they will need to get their public entertainment licence application submitted soon to the Council if they wish to have a licence in place for Bonfire Night. With only 5 months to 5th November, organisers of community fireworks events are urged to make early applications for public entertainment licences to ensure that they can be processed and granted in time for their events.

Coastal deaths: RNLI says ‘fight your instincts, not the water' to help stay alive
New research1 commissioned by the RNLI has revealed that six in ten people (61%) in Scotland would follow a potentially life-threatening instinct if they fell unexpectedly into water. The RNLI is now calling on the public to fight their instincts and remember one simple skill - floating - that could save lives from drowning.

Highland Council pays respect to lives lost in Manchester - Miller Academy
There was a 1 minute silence at 11am today at all Highland Council premises in tribute to the victims of the Manchester bomb attack. At the Council's headquarters on Glenurquhart Road, Inverness, staff joined Convener of The Highland Council, Cllr Bill Lobban and Members to observe the silence.
